PTSD and Adult Childhood Sexual Abuse
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an unease illness from a frightening experience that has happened to someone at any time in their life and is a frightening event most people do not get over or beat. Some people understand their PTSD and the majority of people do not know they have PTSD. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is most often related to the army. I have again and again heard people say, “Only servicemen have or get PTSD.” This is a saying that is not true in every meaning of what people think and say about PTSD and who has or gets it.
For years, I have had PTSD from my childhood sexual abuse and did not know it and I did not understand why I acted up so bad. Until one day I was gone to see a family member and found out by watching this family member act out during the time I was there, and the acts reminded me of myself. I found out the family member was having withdrawal symptoms from marijuana. The family member's addiction to marijuana did not help the already traumatized life from childhood, a split from his family that started resentment to form against everyone close to the father. The family member knew about PTSD but did not know how to go over it. People with PTSD go through alcohol use, and drug misuse, have trouble sleeping, go through nightmares, and chronic pain, and use being alone to deal with their feelings.
Untreated PTSD
When PTSD goes untreated you can go through repeated memories of your trauma. These repeated memories may be of:
· Sight
· Hearing
· Avoidance of places
· Isolation
· Nervousness
· Anger
· Pain
PTSD and addiction are curable for you to heal. However, it is up to you to start healing from your PTSD. The sooner the healing starts the better you will feel. If you do not go through your full healing, you will see that PTSD will come back. Healing is an all the time work to keep going even when you believe you feel better. How do you know you are healed from PTSD and your adult childhood sexual abuse trauma? When you realize one day out of the blue, you think about the trauma and you notice you’re not crying anymore; when you are able to speak with someone about your trauma without crying and you realize---God got me through it for a reason and now I can share it with someone else who needs to heal like I did. No more shame.
There are ways to heal, however, I chose to heal through Christian healing to deal with my adult childhood sexual abuse and my PTSD. You may not feel like you need mental health help or any type of behavioral health help but it's needed. I used the Christian way because after I got saved, I realized, that God help me through and I never had to visit a professional to get through, God got me through. I healed at home in the comfort of my own surroundings of being somewhere where I was relaxed and able to talk to someone who understood what I was going through, and I know. I decided not to let my childhood trauma affect me in my adulthood anymore. Today, it is still a challenge, but I am determined to continue my healing as healing from adult childhood sexual abuse is a long process.
